I suggest u use Windows Explorer/Internet Explorer 6.0
Type the ftp server name in the address bar: ftp://server.com/
If you need to log in with a username/password, you will be prompted (or click on File>Login As... in the menu). The window will open up just like normal and you can copy and paste your stuff without paying for an FTP Software. :P

I agree with fab182000, IE is by far the easiest to use. SmartFTP is also good if you want an easy to use GUI instead.

Wsftp home edition is pretty easy to use. no its not free but for a good working program why not pay a little for it

My favorite FTP program is SSH Secure Shell. It's the safest file transfer client I've used and allows access to university databases, if you get access from one of the many leechers out there (not difficult, search forums). Great for Media files and besides, students allow for 75 percent of peer-to-peer file distribution. Check it out. You can get the free version from their public http domain, available at their website. Google: "SSH - Support - Maintenance Release Downloads"

FileZilla gets my vote too, its one of the most flexable, it's free, heck it's opensource!

There is a FileZilla server too if you need..
