The term, "Internet Marketing," can be somewhat hard to define as many firms use this term rather loosely. So, instead of attempting to give you an "all-inclusive" definition, I'll just tell you what it means to me and my firm.

To us, Internet Marketing means to simply market your business via the internet. This could include helping you to build a website for your business, helping you get more traffic to the one you already have or helping you leverage other "web properties" (like Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, etc.).

There are literally hundreds of different ways that a local business might benefit from an increase in internet exposure but most local businesses will get best results from a small handful of these.

Internet marketing is every marketing activity on the internet excluding the field work & stuff. I'm into this field since years & still am learning. We all know that internet is a vast area of exposure and so is the marketing. Marketing is tricky & internet marketing is much more tricky..!

Simply to define. Promoting something (product/service/etc) through internet/web can be called as internet marketing. And while coming to the methods in internet marketing there are many such as paid methods and free methods.

Popular paid methods are PPC (pay per click), CPM (cost per impressions), CPA (Cost per action) etc
Popular free methods are SEO (search engine optimziation), SMO (social media optimization), Linkreferral (referral advertising) etc
