Deer season is only a few months away, and I was thinking of getting a new rifle in 308 winchester.

The rifles I am looking at are the:

FN/FAL
M1A
PTR-91

All of them seem like good quality rifles. The M1A is used by the US military, while the FN/FAL is used by countries all over the world.

The reason why I want to go with the 308 winchester, my brother and my dad both shoot the 30-06, and bot of the say the recoil is a little harsh.

My main deer rifle is Remington model 700 in 280/7mm express, but even the 280 has a little bit too much recoil.

Most of my shots are going to be less then 100 yards, and I will mostly be hunting whitetail deer.

Why not?

Its some of the best meat you can eat. deer meat is low in fat and high in protein, and its a lot better for you then beef.

What is cruel, is how animals are treated in slaughter houses.

So true man.

Slaughterhouses don't kill with bullets, they kill in more painful ways.

In the mean time, I'll be butchering chickens with a cleave knife.

I suggest getting the rifle with the most common ammo. If it does the job, it does the job.

For myself, I would stick with the M16 and it's children. Because I've been trained with it for some time now and I really don't want to re-learn shooting with anything else. At the cost of cheaper ammo of course. But since I am better at it, I wouldn't be wasting my ammo no?
