Default Questions to consider when choosing hosting

Can anyone provide information on the following?

1) What is a good price for hositing say, for a site that will have a login area and will be relativly interactive.
2) How can you tell a good hosting company from a bad hosting company?

Is there any information you would suggest when looking for hosting?

Drew,

With choosing hosting companies, look up reviews either by searching Google or going directly to Hostsearch.com. When you narrow your search you can ask people here.

I'm not sure what you mean here:

Do you mean the price to design a site like that or the price for a hosting account to put a site like that on the Internet. If you're just asking about a hosting account, what is the size of the site?

I was asking about what sort of hosting package would you need to support a site like that. Bandwidth, number of databases you would need?

I see. In regards to the site being relatively interactive, what will be the purpose? Is it eCommerce?

Drew,

Regarding your first question, you will find prices ranging from $5/mo. to $100/mo. for the type of solution you are looking for - I know it is a wide spectrum. The key though is finding the right host first & foremost and that's where I would spend bulk of my time researching. Once you narrow down the field to a few reputable hosts, the price issue usually works itself out.

Check out http://www.tophosts.com/articles/002920.html , might give you a few ideas as to the right questions to ask.

Regarding the hosting, it depends on your site that how much bandwidth, space it will require. I'd recommend you to choose the host that allows you to easily upgrade your hosting package so that you can start with the smaller packages and later on you may upgrade the package.
Research is the only key to Choose the right host. Look for reviews in the forums as it would help you a lot to know about a host in their downtime, support & service. Usually, you can differentiate one host from other by looking at the reviews given by the forum members or users. To test there services you can email there support team, asking questions and see how fast they reply you...and how good their answers are.
