Default how easy to transfer domain name?

If I have a domain name with godaddy and want to transfer to 1and1, does anyone know how hard/easy this is, and will it be expensive? I use hostgator if this matters at all.. thanks y'all!

Do NOT transfer it to 1&1. Just open an account at Godaddy. Its free and their pricing will be better and you'll have a better experience that at 1&1. There are dozens of Godaddy discount codes around so you should only pay about $7.99 per year to renew it. Plus its a free push/transfer to your new account at Godaddy.

It does not matter where you host your domains. You can simply change the DNS at Godaddy.

Hello

Thanks for aharing this. Here are important thing.......

* If your domain expired with your old Registrar, and you renewed it with them, then do not Transfer it within 45 days of the previous expiry date since it will not add 1 more year to your domain name, and you will lose out on the Renewal fees paid to the older Registrar.
* ICANN & Registry regulations prohibit the transfer of domain names that have been registered or previously transferred within the last 60 Days. Please wait for 60 days from the date of registration or previous transfer before applying for a transfer of such domain names.

Thanks
Have a nice time ahead.

Thanks everyone for your input. I currently use 1and1 for all my other sites so thought it would be easier just to have everything in one place. But it sounds like godaddy would work just as well as 1and1 does. Perhaps a domain transfer isn't necessary after all, but glad to know it doesn't sound too painful if I decide to go in that direction. Thanks y'all!

After you’ve given your new registrar the EPP Code, you’ll get an email from GoDaddy which says you don’t need to respond unless you want to cancel. Well, respond anyway! Manually log into your account–I don’t click links in emails from GoDaddy–then go to the domain management section and approve the transfer. I just transfered two domains and both finished in about an hour. Being proactive is a good thing! (TM)

Now, I just need to transfer the rest of my domains…
