Actually Sex.com was in a huge lawsuit several years back. I don't remember all the details, so I could have some of this wrong. Someone sent in a forged document to Verisign to transfer the domain, and they did it.

The lawsuit dragged on for several years, while the person who took it build himself a fortune. He eventually had to give the domain back, and was ordered to pay something like 65 million in dammages. The person is still at large.

I'm only slightly familiar with the case, becasue I've had some business dealings with one of the attorney's. For more accurate details I would suggest using Google.
