Default Mask Your Private Information?

When you first buy your domain, do you purchase the plan that allows you to mask your private information? I'd recommend it because I'm getting some mail soliciting and asking to expand my business with their service. I don't believe I signed up for anything like this.

I think there is a way to block the whois function, but I didn't know you had to buy something to do that. It is a good idea to do that, because then if somebody doesn't like your site they can find out who you are and do... you know, bad things.

I was a bit curious on how this is done , yes this would probobally be best for everyone. Perhaps it may have some effect on optimization though? Im not 100% sure but it's possible that it could have in which if you wanted your page(s) to be SEO friendly or anything like that, this could very well effect that but again im not sure

Default Privacy - cost

Hi,

I recently purchased a new domain at godaddy.com
The cost to add privacy was $10 per year. That is actually more then I paid for registering the domain I did not add it because at godaddy you can add it anytime so if I start getting spammed I'll add it.

Never put fake info (aka a email address you dont own)- I did that once and later found out that this guy was trying to contact me to buy the domain. I could of made good money- instead I let the name expire and later found out from the dude (I emailed him when he bought the domain) that he had been trying to contact me for a year. Aw well, lesson learned.
