I have searched all around google, and various websites for a solution to this issue and have not been able to surface anything.

I just installed a mysql server on Ubuntu-Server 12.04, and I created a user to access a specific database, however mysql is rejecting the connection on any user other than root.

Simply put, the only user being granted access to the database is root, is this a setting in the sql settings?

Yup. It can be configured using MySQL Workbench (default tools from MySQL/Oracele). But it's for Windows. I hope they provide the ubuntu versions.

Make sure to grant permissions to the user you want for specific database. Not doing so will of course reject the db connection.

Where did you create a user? You should make it in MySQL instead of creating a system user.
