Promoting Secure Server Sites in SEs

Hi

I hope I have this thread in the right area of the site.

Basically, a site that we have been asigned to promote has been made entirely on a secure server beginning with the url beginning 'https'

We only need the payment area of the site to be on the secure server and I am now concerned that this set up is going to jeopardise our potential search rankings.

Does anyone know if this could be the case? If so why and how can I prove that this is the wrong way to do things?

Is it likely to be difficult to rectify?

Any ideas/suggestions/help gratefully appreaciated.
