What I do on computers that run slow is I use RegistryFix to clean out the registry - cleans out all the old and unused files...defintley speeds up for me...and then I run XoftSpySE (The most current one) and that clears out all the spyware and adware on my pc. Spyware and adware can definetley slow a pc down and makes your computer feel very sluggish! Hope this helps!

Definitely do a defrag first. Also run MSCONFIG and pull out any unneeded processes that are loading with Windows startup.

Don't run msconfig unless you know what you're doing though... it can ruin a lot of things if you arent careful...

I would recommend Windows Defender and Adaware SE Personal...
run disk cleanup in teh start menu, all programs, accessories, system tools...
and run disk defragmenter...

Get rid of norton if you have it

Those are all great things to do...

Registry Cleaners arent going to boost the speed of your computer if you run all those thigns that i told you before...

Also, if your computer came with any trial software... i would recommend removing it.

Hope Everything works out well!

A few programs that ive used that helps are:
*system mechanic v5 or v6 - this removes spyware etc and clutter and speeds up ram etc
*diskeeper , by exec software for defrag (does it really quickly)
*spyware doctor
and a good antivirus like AVG and aslong as you perform monthly/fortnightly scans with them applications your computer wont have a problem

I think AVG is ace, ive used it for awhile and due to bad experiences with macafee and norton i dont think i want to use them again. What would you guys think the top 10 antivirus software is?i.e. for value and performace wise?

1st, Make sure your antivirus is up to date and do a full system scan.

2nd step, get and run Spybot Search and Destroy. Watch what spyware tools you try, a good number of them are spyware themselves.

3rd, run msconfig (start -> Run -> msconfig), go under the startup tab and uncheck unneeded items. If you are unsure of what an item is, google it.

4th after rebooting defrag your HDD (Start -> Run -> dfrg.msc)
