Very cool $100 Computer
This is a pretty cool looking little laptop. It is designed to be tough and durable and compact..
And it’s all made for under 100$ around £57, It’s definitely not a gaming laptop but you would probably know seeing its size, I think its better to use Linux on these kinds of machines, what are you thoughts?
Quote:
The Linux-based machines are expected to have a 500MHz processor, with flash memory instead of a hard drive which has more delicate moving parts.
Mock-up of the sub-$100 laptop
The laptop will be more rugged and flexible than ordinary ones
They will have four USB ports, and will be able to connect to the net through wi-fi - wireless net technology - and will be able to share data easily.
It will also have a dual-mode display so that it can still be used in varying light conditions outside. It will be a colour display, but users will be able to switch easily to monochrome mode so that it can be viewed in bright sunlight, at four times normal resolution.

Its one of those laptops they are building for third world countries.
Low processor means that it can hold its power for a longer period.
There is also a wind up just in case there is no electric power at their location!

It's a nice idea though, I think it's nearly as powerful as my phone...

It's a really neat idea, it's exaclty what my brother needs. He can't write too fast, so the school has promised him a laptop. However, all he wants to do is work with Word documents, I don't see why they want to get him a $1600CDN Viao.

One of those would be nice - any idea if I could buy one? It'd be a fun, cheap toy to have. So, yeah, or can you even buy them...?

Its a cool thing to have. It definitely could benefit some people who cant afford a really nice laptop. My brother needs a laptop just to type lectures on (he's in highschool) so this would be cool for that
