the distros all use the linux kernel, but all use different package repositories and therefore have different software available for immediate install. I use ubuntu/debian, which I find highly commendable.

Mrasla: I use Xubuntu, which is specifically for older pcs, on an old laptop and it works fantastically on 128 MB ram 800 Mhz
